Olive oil has been used since as early as 3,000 B.C. It is still so popular nowadays, there is reason: Data shows that people who use olive oil regularly in place of other fats like vegetable oils, animal fats and hydrogenated oils have much lower rates of atherosclerosis, heart disease, asthma, diabetes and colon cancer.
Besides adding olive oil to your diet to get its benefits, you can also use the following simple, safe, inexpensive remedies to treat common problems.
For dry skin, hands, elbows, knees:
•Gently heat a few tablespoons of olive oil to make it lukewarm. Rub some on your dry hands, elbows and knees to make them soft and smooth.
•You can also use olive oil and sea salt. Make a scrub using 3 parts olive oil to 2 parts sea salt. It’s best to use this in the shower or bath.
For your dry nails and cuticles:
Take a very small amount of extra virgin olive oil and rub into your nails and cuticles.
It will give your nails a natural beautiful shine and at the same time, keep those nail cuticles soft and intact. It’s best to use it nightly.
For hair care:
•Use It To Condition Dry Hair – olive oil can be used effectively to condition dry hair and to repair damaged hair.
•Treat Dandruff — Olive oil works wonders in preventing dandruff.
Use the extra-virgin olive oil and massage it into your scalp. Leave it in overnight. Try this remedy for about 7 days. Just wash it off using your regular shampoo.

•Treat Hair Loss – Eating olive oil in your diet is not only beneficial for your long-term internal health, it’s also great for the health of your hair.
•Create Shine – Olive oil is rich in fatty-acids, which helps penetrate the hair cuticle and help treat drying hair.
If you’re looking for soft shiny hair, just put a few drops of olive oil in your palm first and rub in. Then just work it in your hair starting from the ends. This treatment is great if you’re just looking for a good shine. Works well with extra-virgin olive oil.
For ear infections:
Mix 1 teaspoon of warm olive oil and 4 drops of onion juice (grate an onion and squeeze through a cheesecloth). Put 3 drops in the affected ear and plug your ear with a cotton ball. Do this twice a day, in the morning and in the evening.
For toothaches:
Mix a few drops of clove oil with olive oil (1:3 ratio clove oil to olive oil). Just dab the mixture using a cotton ball on the tooth. Leave it as long as it is needed but the pain should subside fairly quickly. Rinse out the mouth once you feel some relief.
(Note: This remedy should not be used for children, pregnant or nursing women.)
For cough:
Cook 1/2 cup of olive oil, 1 cup of honey and the juice from one lemon for 5 minutes. Afterwards, stir the mixture vigorously for 2 minutes. Take 1 teaspoon every 2 hours as needed. This is an effective remedy to stop a dry, irritating cough.
For constipation
Take 1 tablespoon of olive oil, a natural laxative, in the morning and 1 tablespoon one hour after eating dinner.
For snoring
Take 3 sips – the most – of olive oil before sleeping since it will make the throat and its muscles smoother. Through this, the occurrence of snoring is reduced and might possibly eliminate it after quite some time, as long as it is practiced religiously.
For aches and pains:
Try warming some olive oil and rubbing it on the affected areas. Add a touch of cayenne pepper for circulation and to really stimulate quick muscle healing. Works on arthritic joints as well.
