Steve Areen is a dreamer and a doer, and so when his friend in Thailand suggested that he build his own house out of cheap materials in just six weeks' time, Steve couldn't say no.
Steve's friend, Hajjar Gibran, gave him his own spot of land on his family's mango grove to begin the project.
Steve and Hajjar did the planning, while Hajjar's son-in-law provided some expert masonry skills to construct the base of the house.
Everyone put in a lot of hard work.
It was fascinating to see how a dome home was created--- certainly nothing like most of the buildings we have in the States.
Since things are much cheaper in Thailand, the base for the house only cost about $6,000.
Painting, detailing, and furnishing added another $3,000 to the bill, but it's pocket change compared to what it would be in the United States.
What Steve saved in cash was made up for in six weeks of elbow grease and dedication... and it really shows.
The house isn't just sturdy...
...It's also beautiful.
While it may have been quick and cheap to build, make no mistake--- this is a quality dream home.
It's not just a place to stay, but a personal piece of paradise.
I would stay up there all day.
Oh, this? Just a backyard pond surrounded by mango trees.
Steve took a dip in the local pond to find all the floral decor himself.
It looks even more beautiful at night.
When he prefers to stay indoors, Steve can hang out by the large windows and gaze out at the scenery.
Despite how beautiful it is outside of the home, the inner decor might make it tempting to stay inside, too.
The bathroom alone looks beautiful enough to shower in forever.
Even the sink is made of all-natural materials, just like the rest of the house.
I don't think anything except the sweetest of dreams could be had in this bedroom.
The entire house is truly a little piece of paradise in one of the most beautiful parts of the world.
It might not be something that everyone could afford, but it's crazy to think how much a house like this would cost elsewhere.
With the right materials, hard work, and some really great friends, Steve was able to gain an incredible new home.
Truly amazing things can happen when you decide to take your dreams and make them a reality.
