Oops! 15 of Obama’s Protected Illegals Arrested By Feds

In issuing his executive order to protect up to 5 million illegal aliens, President Obama assured the American people that no dangerous illegal alien criminals would be included in his “amnesty” plan. Now, that doesn’t seem to be the case.  CNS Newsreports:
Federal agents in a sweep targeting the most dangerous criminal immigrants arrested 15 people who have been allowed to remain in the U.S. under President Barack Obama’s executive action intended to protect children who came to the U.S. years ago with their parents, The Associated Press has learned.
Fourteen of the 15 had been convicted of a crime, the Homeland Security Department confirmed late Thursday. In at least one case, the Obama administration renewed the protective status for a young immigrant after that person’s conviction in a drug case, a U.S. official briefed on the arrests said.

This wasn’t to be the case with the “amnesty” plan.  As CNS News explains:

One of the eligibility requirements for the program is that immigrants not have a criminal history.
The flaws with this program were quickly pointed out by members of Congress given this recent revelation of the arrests and convictions.  CNS News provides the quotes:
“With few fraud detection measures and effective background checks in place, it’s no surprise that ICE arrested over a dozen DACA recipients last week, most of whom had already been convicted of a crime,” said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte. “I and other members of the House Judiciary Committee have expressed concern about this for years.”
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, said the case “sheds light on what appears to be a haphazard and risky vetting process by an administration that is very interested in finding creative and possibly unconstitutional ways for people to stay in the country.”
It seems reality is encroaching in on President Obama’s flowery approach to illegal immigration.  The raid that netted these 15 “amnestied” illegals was part of a larger raid to detain a much larger number of criminal illegal alien immigrants as CNS News explains:
Earlier this week ICE Director Sarah Saldana said the operation focused on “the worst of the worst criminals.”
ICE agents arrested 2,059 convicted immigrants, including more than 1,000 people who had multiple convictions. More than 98 percent of those arrested in the weeklong operation were a top priority, Saldana said.
Breitbart includes additional details about the larger raid:
The operation began on Sunday, March 1, and ran through Thursday, March 5. The criminal aliens arrested were from 94 different countries and included people convicted of a wide variety of crimes. 1,000 of those captured had multiple convictions.
1,000 of the captured criminal aliens were targeted because they had felony convictions. Those range from voluntary manslaughter, child pornography, robbery, kidnapping and rape. Fifty-eight of those captured were known gang members, while eighty-nine were convicted sex offenders.
Previously deported criminal aliens made up 476 of the 2,059 who were rounded up. 163 of these were turned over to the U.S. Attorneys for prosecution on a variety of charges. Those include illegal re-entry after deportation. This is a felony that is punishable by up to twenty years in prison.
