Signs banning Muslims from parking lot causes outrage in US

Signs banning Muslims from using a shopping centre's parking lot mysteriously appeared this week in a city of the southern US state of Texas, generating massive outrage.

The posters, which read "No Muslim parking in the Westview Shopping Center," were seen in recent days outside the mall, which sits across the street from a mosque, a local television station reported.

Some speculated that the signs were put up to avoid large crowds expected at the mosque during the holy month of Ramzan.

Several mall employees privately expressed frustration with mosque members occupying parking spots meant for shoppers, the 'Washington Times' reported.

Worshippers attending the mosque were left furious by the signs which also warned violators that their vehicles would be towed.

"I'm very shocked because we do live in a society that's supposed to be very accepting and this is what we all preach," one worshipper said.

The posters have since been removed and police has launched an investigation into the matter.
